OpenLife Nigeria reports that popular social media matchmaker, Lege Miami, has found himself at the center of social media debate after posting a video from a Ramadan food distribution exercise in Kosofe Local Government Area, Lagos.
Born Adams Kehinde, Lege Miami is a well-known Nigerian Yoruba actor, filmmaker, musician, and popular social media matchmaker .
He gained fame for his roles in Nollywood movies like Omo Shomolu and for running the “Singles Hook-Up” matchmaking show, which connects people for relationships.
The outreach program involved the sharing of branded Iftar meal packs reportedly sponsored by Seyi Tinubu, son of Nigeria’s president Bola Tinubu through the Noella Foundation.
The initiative was aimed at supporting Muslims observing the Ramadan fast, along with other vulnerable residents in the community.
In clips circulating online, a large crowd of residents can be seen lining up at a designated point in Kosofe as food packs containing jollof rice were handed out.
Lege Miami, who shared the footage on Instagram, openly expressed gratitude to Seyi Tinubu for facilitating the gesture.
In his post, he wrote:
“All Kosofe people appreciate the generosity of Barr @seyitinubu in providing Ramadan Iftar meals and prayers for the people, your thoughtful gesture reflects compassion, leadership and a true understanding of RAMADAN.”
Despite the goodwill message, the post quickly attracted criticism. Many Nigerians who reacted in the comment section questioned the long-term impact of such distributions.
Critics argued that while the meals may temporarily ease hunger, they fail to address the deeper economic strain affecting countless households across the country.
Others suggested that sustainable policies and structural solutions would offer more meaningful relief than periodic charitable interventions.
Those who spoke offline said that as conversations continue to unfold online, the incident has once again highlighted the widening gap between public expectations and political or philanthropic outreach efforts during challenging economic times.
They expect that the concerns expressed by citizens would reconfigure the thinkings of public office holders.
