Senator Ibrahim Mantu’s confessions
OpenLife Nigeria has gathered that Former Deputy Senate President, Ibrahim Mantu, has died. The astute politician who represented Plateau Central in his days at the red chambers reportedly died in the early hours of Tuesday, August 17, 2021.
Credible sources told OpenLife that he died at a medical centre in Chanso village, Gindiri District, Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State.
Notably, Mantu was one of the few Nigerians who task politics seriously and had from the onset decided to make it a full-time vocation.
He was very popular during his time in the senate so much so that he served as Deputy Senate President of Nigeria between 2003 to 2007.
His political activities resonated around the entire Nigerian political landscape and in the process, some of his deeds were seen contrary to regulations which of course, were deft moves to win the election for the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, his choice party.
Mantu, in all sincerity, admitted these faultlines and repented before he died.
In one of his public outings, the courageous politician made a public confession on Friday, March 30, 2018, when he revealed how he contributed to rig elections for his party in past elections.
He made the earth-shaking disclosure when he played host at the channels television programme ‘Hard Copy.’
Pronouncing himself a born-again politician, Mantu said:
“Yes! Yes! I did. I am now confessing the truth. But what I mean is that I don’t have to go and change election results. But when you provide money, you give money to INEC boys to help you if they see any chance to favour you. You provide money to the security.
“All our elections in the past, I have been a part of it. I have been in this game for forty years. It’s not necessarily when I am contesting an election, but when my party sponsors a candidate; I would want that person to win the election.
“Just like what we do, we make provision for INEC, we make provision for security, we make provision for even agents of other political parties so that they will not raise any objection to whatever we are able to get.
“So whether I rig the election or not, by providing those resources and financial inducement to the officials, I have rigged the elections,” he confessed.
