OpenLife reports that social activist Aisha Yesufu has urged opposition figures Peter Obi and Atiku Abubakar to rethink their campaign strategies for the 2027 general election, emphasizing that the country’s economic difficulties are keeping many citizens focused on survival rather than politics.

Commenting on a viral clip of a woman cursing critics after receiving rice distributed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Yesufu suggested that mere political slogans are unlikely to resonate with a population grappling with rising poverty and soaring food prices.

She stated that the struggles faced by ordinary Nigerians are a result of systemic neglect and the diversion of essential resources, leaving citizens preoccupied with meeting basic needs.

“Yesufu stressed that even small acts of support can have a powerful impact during such hard times, writing:

‘Citizens were deliberately impoverished, monies taken away from their pockets and food made expensive so that little tokens will matter to them.

As we go into the 2027 election, the opposition must campaign to the people in the language the people will understand.

For those who need bread, give them bread with your picture on it. For those who need policies, give them policy documents with your picture on it.

A hungry man or woman cannot reason. He or she just wants the rumbling in their tummy to stop.”

She urged opposition parties to address Nigerians’ immediate concerns, noting that hunger and financial strain make it difficult for citizens to engage with political debates or policy discussions.
