The news was officially confirmed on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, by Bruno Miranda, Kenoly’s longtime music director, in a statement shared on Kenoly’s official Instagram page. Miranda, who worked with Kenoly for over two decades, expressed profound grief over the loss of his friend, mentor, and ministry partner.

Tributes have since poured in from worship leaders, gospel artists, and Christian communities worldwide, all honoring Kenoly’s lasting impact on gospel music and worship.

Fans and fellow ministers are mourning deeply, devastated by the loss of a voice that inspired generations.

ORIGIN AND EARLY LIFE

Dr Ron Kenoly was born and raised in Coffeyville, Kansas, the son of Edith Kenoly.

From an early age, he showed a deep passion for music, inspired by legendary Black entertainers like Sammy Davis Jr. and Nat King Cole.

His mother prayed for him even before his birth, asking God that her son would dedicate his life to praising Him a calling that would define Kenoly’s journey.

After high school, he moved to Hollywood, California, to pursue music. Before fully committing to gospel, he served in the United States Air Force from 1965 to 1968, performing with a band called The Mellow Fellows and touring military bases, which helped refine his musical skills.

FAMILY AND PERSONAL LIFE

Dr Kenoly was married to Tavita Kenoly, with whom he had three sons: Samuel, Ronald Jr., and Tony. Later in life, he married Diana, a United Nations ambassador, and remained with her until his passing. He was also related to Hollywood actor Don Cheadle, who is reported to be his cousin.

MUSIC CAREER AND MINISTRY

Kenoly initially experimented with secular music and even recorded R&B tracks under the name Ron Keith, but he ultimately devoted his life to Christian worship.

His full-time ministry began in 1985 at Jubilee Christian Center in San Jose, California, where he served as worship leader and was ordained as Music Pastor in 1987.

Kenoly’s breakthrough came in 1992 with the album Lift Him Up, which became one of the fastest-selling worship albums of its time.

His music blended traditional gospel with contemporary praise, emphasizing scripture-filled, energetic worship that encouraged congregational participation.

Beyond recordings, Kenoly mentored worship leaders and consulted churches worldwide, leaving a lasting influence on global worship culture.
