Fave In Shock To Promoters Cite Ramadan To Turn Down Birthday Concert

OpenLife Nigeria reports that Afrobeats singer Fave has publicly expressed disappointment and uncertainty following claims that live music events are restricted in parts of Nigeria during the Islamic holy month of Ramadan a situation she says has disrupted plans for her long-anticipated birthday concert.

Posted on her X handle, the singer revealed that several promoters she approached declined to work with her, all reportedly giving the same reason: that shows could not be staged during Ramadan.

The development, she said, came as an unexpected setback, especially since the concert was planned to coincide with her birthday on March 13, a date she described as both personally and professionally significant.

According to Fave, the idea of hosting the concert marked a major milestone in her career, as she hoped it would be her first independent headline show in Nigeria.

“I started this year wanting to do my first show in Nigeria on my birthday as an independent artiste, and back to back, promoters kept sending word to my team saying the same thing,” she wrote.

While stressing that she respects Islamic traditions, the singer questioned why religious observances would prevent her from holding a concert, particularly given Nigeria’s religious diversity. She also pointed out that the situation felt unfamiliar to her based on her upbringing.

“I grew up in the south and never heard of Ramadan practices till I was in my late teens,” Fave stated.

The singer was quick to clarify that her comments were not intended to criticise any faith. Instead, she explained that her frustration stemmed from confusion over how religious practices could affect business decisions in a multi-faith society especially as a Christian hoping to celebrate her birthday through her craft.

“I respect all religions. But I’m Christian, and I really want to do this on my birthday,” she added.

Despite the setbacks, Fave remains hopeful. She used her platform to call on promoters who may be willing to work with her regardless of the reported limitations, expressing optimism that the show could still come to life.
“So if you’re reading this and are open to organizing, I’d be so happy,” she wrote.

As conversations continue online, Fave’s experience has sparked wider debate about the balance between religious observance and creative expression in Nigeria’s diverse society.

Whether her birthday concert will eventually hold remains uncertain, but the singer’s call for willing promoters has kept hope alive that the celebration may still happen.
