OpenLife reports that Nigerian entrepreneur Grace Makun has expressed surprise at a new trend in children’s birthday party packs.
She noted that many parents now include food items such as noodles, rice, Milo, sugar, Maggi, and cereal, rather than toys or educational treats.
In a social media post, Grace wrote:
“Party packs are starting to look like a charity project. What happened to toys, educational resources, and simple treats? Now it’s indomie, bag of rice, sugar, Milo, Maggi, cereal.”
She added humorously,
“What is going on? Someone should update me… I’ve been missing a lot on this Obasanjo internet lately. Is this the new trend? Did someone announce it and I just didn’t hear?”
Her observation has sparked lively online debates. While some agree that party packs should remain fun and playful, others defend the inclusion of practical food items, especially amid rising living costs.
Grace’s comments have reignited discussions about how children’s birthday traditions are evolving and whether party packs should focus on joy, practicality, or a mix of both.
