The Cause Of Electricity Tariff Hike—Kunle Kola Olubiyi

The Cause Of Electricity Tariff Hike is attributable to Buhari’s aides
OpenLife Nigeria has gathered that despite accusing fingers being pointed at electricity regulator for inhuman and extra ordinary increment in the cost of electricity delivery, aides of President Muhammadu Buhari should be held responsible for the cause of electricity hike and government’s policy somersaults in the energy sector.
This was the disclosure of Kunle Kola Olubiyo, President, Nigeria Consumer Protection Network Group who spoke on a RayPower radio programmer on Wednesday morning.
Olubiyo stated that Nigerian need to understand that 85 percent of power generation is from gas and gas has international price regulation.
He noted that there are grid limitations, a development that suffocates distribution companies in terms of output and supply.
“ Domestic joint venture agreement entails that issue of gas should be addressed by government. That is partly the problem,” Kunle Olubiyi, a member of the technical panel on system collapse, explained.
He noted further that government, must as a matter of urgency, adjust in certain policies that concern power, gas and energy, adding that “However, President Muhammadu Buhari’s aides and foot soldiers, some of who deliberately ill advise the President, are the problems.”
Meanwhile, there has been confusion in the energy consumer circle over the arbitrarily increase of electricity tariff
from 2 percent to 4 percent per
kilowatt.
Already, Nigerians who are groaning under high cost of living including but not limited to ravaging pandemic, high interest and insecurity are gearing up for a showdown with the government.
