Seplat Energy Advances Tree4Life Programme

OpenLife News reports that Seplat Energy has advanced its Tree4Life Programme to combat climate change, reverse widespread deforestation, advance carbon sequestration and support food security and local livelihoods across Nigeria with a target of one million trees by 2030.

The company recently achieved a major milestone with the planting of 200,000 trees, reinforcing its ambition to establish one million trees by 2030.

The Tree4Life Programme is a flagship reforestation and biodiversity conservation initiative that combines environmental restoration with community development.

According to Seplat Energy’s 2025 Social Performance Report, the programme has established nurseries containing more than 175,000 seedlings and has trained more than 300 community members in tree planting, nursery management and sustainable land-use practices.

The initiative is designed to tackle climate change through carbon sequestration while reversing deforestation and restoring degraded landscapes across its host communities.

Beyond environmental objectives, the programme continues to deliver socio-economic benefits, supporting food security and local livelihoods.

More than 350 community members have been engaged through site preparation, planting operations, nursery management and logistics support, creating economic opportunities and strengthening sustainable agricultural practices.

Seplat Energy said its approach emphasizes close collaboration with host communities and key stakeholders to ensure long-term success and shared ownership of forest protection and environmental stewardship.

Building on the 200,000 trees milestone, the company plans to scale up the programme from 2026 as part of a broader strategy to restore degraded landscapes and enhance biodiversity.

Future plans include sustaining phased planting, strengthening maintenance programmes, survival monitoring and replacement planting to maximize long-term impact.

The company also plans to expand environmental and social baseline studies, enhance biodiversity monitoring and strengthen measurement and verification of carbon sequestration outcomes in line with internationally recognized standards.

The Tree4Life Programme underscores Seplat Energy’s commitment to responsible energy development, environmental sustainability and inclusive growth, demonstrating how climate action can be integrated with community empowerment to create lasting benefits.
