Pressure On Varsity To Sack Lecturer

OpenLife Nigeria has learned that the University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN) has been asked to terminate the services of a Computer Science lecturer, Dr. Nnaemeka Ogbene, allegedly involved in election manipulation scandal in Enugu State.

The Executive Director, Odera Foundation, Oluwakemi Roland, who made the call in a statement on Monday in Enugu, said the university authorities must act quickly to preserve integrity of the academia, as well as protect vulnerable students.

Roland, who said her organisation is scandalised by what she described as “flagrant abuse of electoral processes” during the recently concluded governorship election in the state, wondered how a university lecturer would be allegedly involved in the manipulation of results with such impunity, and still be allowed to return to teach students.

It would be recalled that Dr. Nnaemeka Ogbene, the Returning Officer for Nkanu East Local Government Area had after the March 18 Governorship elections, turned in a result that has numbed statisticians all over the world.
In the LGA, where, in his own words, there were just above 6,000 accredited voters, Dr. Ogbene’s computer wizardry was able to conjure more than 32,000 votes.

In the evaluation of public affairs analysts, Ogbene was a carefully selected willing participant, in the grand scheme of electoral stealing planned and perfected long before the election.

The call for his sack may have ignited regret in his inner recess on account of the realization of how it is very likely to haunt his future as a young academic and researcher
