Deeper Crisis Hits PDP 2027 Candidates As Uzodinma Punctures Wike[Video]
OpenLife News reports that the crisis rocking the opposition ahead of the 2027 elections has taken a new turn as APC governors have drawn a red line against political alliances that could undermine President Bola Tinubu’s re-election, a move seen as a direct puncture to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike’s emerging Rainbow Coalition.
Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum and Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma, made the declaration on behalf of the governors on Monday night during a closed-door meeting at the Imo State Governor’s Lodge in Abuja.
The development comes amid growing disagreements within the APC over the Rainbow Coalition being championed by Wike, with party leaders concerned that the coalition’s activities could divide APC votes and affect the President’s chances in 2027.
Reading the communique, Uzodinma said the APC governors forum unanimously resolved to reject any arrangement that creates confusion or divided loyalty.
“The APC Governors Forum unanimously resolved that its members will not participate in, support or endorse any alliance or political arrangement capable of undermining the re-election of Mr President, weakening the APC or adversely affecting any candidate of the party at all levels.
“In other words, the forum has no intention to support any candidate at any level that is not an APC candidate because our candidates who are contesting the election are being sponsored by our party.
The governors’ campaign commitment is exclusively to all APC candidates.
“All levels of the party campaign architecture will align with the expectations of Mr President and the strategic objectives of the party,” Uzodinma said.
He further stated that no arrangement that creates confusion, divided loyalty or competing interests within the party would be entertained.
Uzodinma’s declaration has deepened the crisis for PDP 2027 presidential aspirants who have been relying on Wike’s political structure.
Wike isolated: Although Wike remains a prominent supporter of President Tinubu, he has been building a political structure that cuts across traditional party boundaries.
The APC governors have now said their campaign commitment is exclusively to APC candidates.
Rainbow Coalition punctured
The resolution is significant because it comes against the backdrop of political activities surrounding Wike, whose emerging political coalition has attracted supporters across party lines.
Reports describe it as APC governors drawing a red line over Wike’s ‘Rainbow Coalition’ as 2027 battle intensifies.
PDP left in disarray
PDP candidates are now stuck between a ruling APC that has closed its doors to external alliances and a Wike camp that can no longer promise them federal backing.
