NYC demands for the unfortunate killing of unsuspecting youth by security operatives in Ogun State
OpenLife Nigeria reports that the Nigerian Youth Congress, NYC, on Thursday, condemned the alleged killing of youths by the joint patrol team of the Nigerian Army and the Nigerian Customs Service in Ogun State.
While expressing displeasure over the sad incident, in a statement on Thursday, the State Public Relations Officer of NYC, Comrade Olubayode Damilare described the incident as unfortunate but avoidable.
Olubayode said, “After a careful study of the unfortunate but avoidable incident involving joint patrol team of the Nigerian Army and the Nigerian Customs Service which resulted to the death of some innocent Youths with many others left with injuries, the leadership and the entire members of the Nigerian Youth Congress, NYC hereby strongly condemn the unfortunate incident in its entirety.”
“The recent killing at Ayetoro on 22nd of December is one out of many sad stories usually recorded at the border towns and its environs caused by the activities of the Nigerian Security Agents.
“Officers of the Nigerian Custom in particular take delight in indiscriminate shooting when chasing smugglers, with this action being responsible for many untimely death of many innocent Nigerians particularly, Youths with various degrees of injury inflicted on many.
“Many children had become fatherless, wives turned widows while parents had been thrown into everlasting pain and agony as a result of the unprofessional conducts of some trigger happy security agents saddled with the responsibilities of protecting them.”
However, NYC called on the Chief of Army Staff, General Tukur Buratai, Nigeria Customs Service, Col. Hameed Ibrahim Alli(Rtd) and other security agents operating within and around the affected areas to immediately investigate the incident and bring the perpetrators to justice to serve as deterrent to others so as to restore people’s confidence in the country security architectures.
In the same vein, NYC demands adequate compensation for the people killed by Joint patrol team of Nigerian Army and Nigerian Custom Service and other people that suffered the same cause.
The youth congress also appealed to the Ogun State Government and the recently constituted Panel of Enquires on End SARS Protest to kindly permit the victims of Ayetoro killing or their love ones to tender their cases before the panel.
