Mohbad Paternity Case Set For Triple DNA Tests

;

OpenLife Nigeria reports that the ongoing paternity dispute involving the late Afrobeat and street-hop singer, Mohbad, reached a decisive moment in court , as judges laid out the framework for comprehensive DNA testing.

To ensure accuracy and eliminate any doubts, the court ordered three separate tissue-based DNA tests.

Each party Baba Mohbad and Wunmi’s legal teams must propose three foreign laboratories capable of conducting the tests.

From these submissions, the court will select one laboratory per side, while also appointing a neutral, independent facility to carry out a third test.

The ruling specifies that all three results must correspond, leaving no room for conflicting findings.

Representing Baba Mohbad, the lawyer emphasized the family’s reluctance to rely on government pathologists, saying, “We do not wish to use a government pathologist.”

The lawyer noted that some foreign labs have specialized pathologists who operate within Nigeria, and the family prefers these facilities to guarantee reliable results.

Financial responsibility for the tests has also been clarified: Baba Mohbad will cover both his selected lab and the court-appointed test, while Wunmi’s side is responsible for funding their own test.

The arrangement highlights the court’s effort to maintain fairness while ensuring each party assumes accountability for their part of the process.

The case has been adjourned to February 10, 2026, giving both sides time to finalize their laboratory selections and prepare for the DNA examinations.

Legal analysts note that conducting multiple independent tests, with matching results required, significantly strengthens the credibility of the outcome and reduces the potential for legal challenges.

Observers and fans of the late singer have closely followed the proceedings, given Mohbad’s prominent role in Nigeria’s music scene and the importance of resolving matters concerning his estate and paternity.

The upcoming tests are expected to provide clarity and bring the case closer to resolution.
