Lagos Governor laments
OpenLife Nigeria reports that the executive governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu is currently in lamentation.
His woes are not in any way connected with the Value Added Tax imbroglio with the federal government which is under litigation.
The governor who is working round the clock to deliver democracy dividends to the people of Lagos State is sad over the disinterest of young Lagosians in military service.
Babajide Sanwo-Olu whose preoccupation is to extend Lagos dominance to all strata of the society is particularly worried that Lagos State which possesses the human mental and physical requirements to dominate the military is at the lower rungs of Nigeria’s military ladder.
To address this unacceptable vacuum, young Lagosians have come under heavy criticism by the governor over their refusal to enroll in the Nigerian Army recruitment exercises.
Sanwo-Olu expressed his concerns in a letter to the state local government authorities on September 29, signed by Folashade Jaji.
The Lagos governor lamented that the State has been recording low online applications despite several jingles on media platforms.
The Nigerian Army commenced the recruitment process for its 82 Regular Recruits Intake exercise on September 10 when the online application portal opened.
The portal is expected to close on November 26.
He maintained that it was pertinent to strategise other means to reach able-bodied youths to ensure massive responses of applicants as well as utilise slots allocated to the state.
Sanwo-Olu called for a statewide sensitisation campaign to “afford youths (Lagos State indigenes) opportunities to acquaint themselves with benefits” of joining the army.
