OpenLife Nigeria reports that Yobe State Commissioner of Environment, Honourable Sidi Yakubu Karasuwa, has inaugurated the 153 Local Government Project Management Committee (LGPMC) members for the 17 local government areas of Yobe State.
Honourable Karasuwa, who is also the Chairman Steering Committee of the Agro-Climatic in Semi-Arid Landscapes ACReSAL, inaugurated the committee in Yobe on Friday, October 6.
According to a statement made available to OpenLife by Ibrahim Babasaleh, Senior Special Assistant on Media in Yobe government, the composition of the committee was drawn from relevant local government ministries including heads of departments, traditional and religious representatives, women and youth group leaders, and representatives of people living with disabilities among others.
Speaking at the event, the Environment Commissioner charged the committee to take ownership and sustainability of all projects to be executed.
Lending his voice, the ACReSAL State Project Coordinator, Shehu Alhaji Mohammed disclosed that the formation of the local committee is in line with the ACReSAL mandate to carry communities along in maintaining projects.
He said at least 9 people were selected in each of the 17 LGAs of Yobe State.
According to him, the federal government has expressed commitment to reclaim 4 million hectares of degraded lands, out of this number, Yobe ACReSAL is to reclaim 100,000 hectares.
He urged the leaders at the local government councils to support the committee in discharging their responsibility.
