Governor Bunu, through his director of media, Mamman Mohammed reacts to impeachment threat

OpenLife Nigeria reports that the government of Yobe State has clarified the rumour of impeachment threat against governor Mai Mala Buni.
The clarifications came against the backdrop of swelling agitations by the indigens of the of disharmony in the state.
According to information made available to OpenLife by a group called Yobe Concerned Citizen, YCC, and signed by its President, Mohammed Ahmed, the group expressed concerns by the agitations of the citizens of the state who have had cause to complain over the absence of governance in the state.

“The good people of Yobe State have told governor Mai Mala Buni to decide forthwith either to stay and govern the state or take the All Progressives Congress, APC full time job,” the statement reads.
Continuing, the group stated that they align completely with the agitation of the people who are felling shortchanged in democratic process

“The people of Gombe State elected governor Mai Mala Buni to offer democratic service. It was not Abuja APC that queued in the sun to vote him into office. Therefore, it is disservice to the people to be so short changed,” said the group.
In addition, the group alleged that Mai Mala Buni has not deemed it necessary to hand key responsibilities to his deputy since he was appointed the national chairman of APC, a development that made the group to call on the state assembly to commence impeachment process against the governor.

“He barely spends three days in Yobe. He is always in Abuja. His deputy is idle and governance has grounded. The House of Assembly know what to do when a governor braches the constitution,” he group stated.
In reaction, the director General of media to the governor, Mammam Mohmammed, told OpenLife on Sunday during a telephone conversation that “It is absolutely not true. I refer you to the State House of Assembly” to confirm if there is any impeachment plans against Mai Mala Buni.

Despite Mamman Mohammed’s denial, Governor Mai Mala Buni had, in an interview with the BBC, admitted that he rarely stays in the state saying that his duty in the ruling party is not hindering his efforts to discharge his responsibilities.
“On the issue of staying, there is no way I can spend a month without spending three or four days in Yobe state. And then even if I return to Yobe, I won’t advertise or make it public that today I will be in Yobe and tomorrow I will be leaving,” he defends.

It would be recalled that Mai Mala Buni, born 19 November 1967, is the caretaker chairman of the All Progressives Congress. He was elected governor during the 2019 Nigeria general elections under All Progressives Congress (APC) party.
