OpenLife Nigeria reports that Nigerian rapper and activist Falz has sharply criticized religious leaders for endorsing political figures while the country mourns one of its deadliest attacks in recent history.
His comments come after nearly 200 people were killed in Kwara State in a violent assault that has shocked the nation.
Taking to social media, Falz called out both spiritual leaders and celebrities for downplaying the tragedy with political messaging.
He wrote:
“I don’t know when we are going to wake up. Nearly 200 people were kill£d in Kwara State, yet some are already involving celebrities and influencers with messages like ‘Relax, Tinubu is fixing Nigeria.’
They will still attend your church, and your pastors will allow them to campaign.”
The rapper’s remarks highlight a growing frustration among Nigerians who feel that moral and spiritual authorities are prioritizing politics over the wellbeing of citizens. While families bury loved ones and communities grapple with insecurity, Falz’s message underscores the tension between national grief and political promotion.
The attacks in Kwara State, carried out by armed assailants, left communities devastated and prompted calls for stronger security measures. Many have expressed anger over the perceived silence or complicity of religious and cultural leaders, especially when they publicly support political figures amidst such crises.
Falz, known for combining entertainment with activism, has a history of using his platform to challenge societal and political issues.
His latest post resonates with many young Nigerians, who see the comment as a call for leaders, both religious and political, to prioritize lives over influence.
As the nation continues to mourn, Falz’s words serve as a stark reminder of the gap between public tragedies and the narratives being pushed by some influential figures.
