Delta Shuts Down Illegal Orphanage, Relocates 22 Orphans

<p>&nbsp&semi;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p><em>Delta shuts down orphanage<&sol;em><br &sol;>&NewLine;<strong><a href&equals;"https&colon;&sol;&sol;openlife&period;ng&sol;">OpenLife Nigeria<&sol;a><&sol;strong> reports that Delta State Government has shut down an illegal orphanage located in Ashaka&comma; Ndokwa East Local Government Area&comma; insisting the Child Rights Bill as domesticated by law must be adopted by orphanages across the state&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>Thee Commissioner for Women Affairs&comma; Community and Social Development&comma; Mrs Flora Alatan during the raid and closure of illegal orphanage called Foster Paradise&comma; Ashaka&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>The Commissioner who was represented by the Permanent Secretary in the ministry&comma; Mrs&period; Oghenekevwe Agas&comma; emphasized that orphanages must comply with the rules and regulations guiding the process of their establishment&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>The women affairs commissioner pointed out how the Foster Paradise Orphanage did not meet up with the requirements for approval before acquiring over 22 children under its care&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>Alatan&comma; speaking with the proprietress&comma; who was handed over to the police&comma; said the orphanage did not follow due process&comma; in accordance with the minstry&&num;8217&semi;s guidelines&comma; and was unable to provide any detailed registered documents accounting for the number of children in their custody&comma; thus its closure&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>She said that the safety of the children was the priority of government&comma; stressing that the ministry did not have the accurate data and information concerning the children&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>As the government of <strong>Delta<&sol;strong> shuts the home&comma; the male children&comma; 11 in number&comma; were from there&comma; taken to a government approved orphanage known as <a href&equals;"https&colon;&sol;&sol;www&period;wsj&period;com&sol;">Orem Orphanage<&sol;a> in Ughelli&comma; while the female children also 11 in number&comma; were taken to Ojone Orphanage in Ogwashi-Uku&comma; Aniocha South Local government&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>The proprietress of the Foster Paradise Orphanage&comma; <a href&equals;"https&colon;&sol;&sol;www&period;wsj&period;com&sol;">Mrs Antonett<&sol;a> said she had relocated from Lagos and had begun the registration process but had not acquired the license&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;

Nollywood Actress, Shine Rosman, Raises Alarm Over Alleged Sexual Harassment In Lagos OpenLife reports that Nollywood actress Shine Rosman has spoken about what she describes as ongoing incidents of sexual harassment affecting women in parts of Lagos, particularly in Yaba. She said the issue is widely known among residents but remains unaddressed. “Do you know how bad sexual harrssment is in Lagos? Like go to Yaba, as a girl and see how you will be touched inappropriately. Everybody hearing this knows that it is true. But till today, nothing is being done about it.” She described what she claims are repeated incidents of inappropriate contact in public spaces without consequences for those responsible. “You’re walking in Yaba and people are touching you inappropriately and nothing will happen.” Rosman questioned the absence of effective intervention and raised concerns about personal safety in such environments. “If the government is not going to do anything, is it not ok for us to defend ourselves? In 2026, in a country like Nigeria, s+xual har+ssment is still one of the most passive things.” She also raised concerns about the implications of such behaviour occurring in open public spaces. “If a man can s+xually h+rass you casually during the day, what do you think he can do behind closed doors when no one is looking?”. The comments were made during an interview with Tolu Afilaka, where she discussed women’s safety in public areas of Lagos.
