Hours After Affirming Tinubu’s 2027 Bid
OpenLife News reports that a political disagreement has erupted between the camp of Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke and the Presidency, just hours after the governor publicly endorsed President Bola Tinubu for a second term in 2027.
The fallout was triggered by a congratulatory message from Aviation Minister Festus Keyamo, which Adeleke’s Imole Campaign Council has now dismissed as suggesting a non-existent “deal.”
The Endorsement That Sparked It
Governor Adeleke, who secured re-election in the August 15 Osun governorship election, used his victory speech to reaffirm his support for Tinubu.
“I hereby reaffirm my earlier endorsement of him for second term in the 2027 presidential election,”
Adeleke said, describing the President as “a son of Osun State.”
Responding on Sunday on X, formerly Twitter, Festus Keyamo, Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, wrote:
“Thank you, Governor Ademola Adeleke, for the public and unequivocal endorsement of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the 2027 Presidential Election. You are a man of integrity and honour. ‘Agreement is agreement.’”
Keyamo’s reference to an “agreement” immediately fueled speculation online that Adeleke’s endorsement was tied to a private political pact with the Presidency.
Imole Council: “Do Not Undermine Osun People. There Is No Agreement”
The Imole Campaign Council moved swiftly to deny the claim.
In a post on X, spokesperson Pelumi Olajengbesi wrote:
“Do not undermine the resilience of Osun people. There is no agreement.”
Olajengbesi clarified that Adeleke’s support is based on governance and policy, not backroom deals.
“Our support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is based on his performance and reforms that have strengthened states economically,” he stated.
He further stressed that the governor’s victory was decided by voters, not political arrangements.
“Osun people voted Adeleke. President Tinubu simply ensured democratic rules were respected,”
he added.
Osun 2026 Election Results
According to data released by INEC, Adeleke, who contested under the Accord Party, won with 511,067 votes.
His closest challenger, Bola Oyebamiji of the APC, polled 444,815 votes.
The commission recorded 1,005,800 total votes cast, comprising 985,079 valid votes and 20,721 rejected votes.
Context: Party Differences
Adeleke’s position has drawn attention because he governs Osun under Accord, having defected from the PDP ahead of the 2026 election. Tinubu, on the other hand, is the national leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Despite the party divide, Adeleke has consistently voiced support for Tinubu’s presidential ambition. His campaign team now insists the stance is rooted in policy considerations and economic reforms, not any clandestine arrangement.
As of press time, there has been no further response from the Presidency or Minister Keyamo to the Imole Council’s denial.
