Stealing in unusual places
OpenLife Nigeria reports that the level of moral decadence in Nigeria is surprisingly assuming frightening dimension.
This development makes politicians and bandits, who are reputed for anything bad, saints.
Only recently, a Nigeria top media executive had a nasty experience at Day Star Christian Centre, a church shepherd by Sam Adeyemi, a man with the gift of inspirational tongue.
The church, on its website, says “God has given us a mandate to raise role models, and He has indeed been faithful, backing our dedication and hard work with a great harvest of transformed lives.
“It is top priority for us that you partake of wholesome worship, edifying messages to build you up and positive interactions. We invite you to tour our website and get to know us a bit better – our service times, locations and membership.
“There are also links should you wish to support our ministry by giving. We look forward to having the pleasure of hosting you and your family soon, either in person at one of our campuses or virtually. In Christ, Sam & Nike Adeyemi.”
But in practice, this mission and ideology appear in contrast to the reality.
In his narrative, the media executive said:
“It was on a Sunday in February at the Daystar church headquarters in Lagos that my items including money were stolen.
“I was billed to travel the following Wednesday.
“We forgot our purse there, containing money and other vital documents, after waiting for worshipper to complete one service.
“Before we could come back to claim, it was gone. They removed all the cash totaling 13k and left one N20 and one N5.
“Interestingly, they hung the purse on a tree afterwards.
“I really do not understand the meaning of church. This is a church that prides itself as ‘A centre for raising role models.’ What kinds of role models are raised in this kind of centre?” He asked rhetorically.
Incidentally, the church also writes on its website that “We run our daily activities based on these core values. IREAL I: Innovation;R: Righteousness; E: Excellence; A: Accountability and L: Love.
Attempts to reach the church to ascertain if the leaders are aware of developments like this in the church yielded no response as of the time of filing this report.
