Desperate Attempts By APC To Constrict Democratic Space And Muzzle Opposition Must Stop

OpenLife News reports that as democracy bleeds in Nigeria, the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) can no longer keep quiet.

The NDC is sad to note that the desperate attempt to constrict the democratic space and muzzle the opposition is on the increase — and it is becoming more brazen, more shameless, and more dangerous by the day.

The NDC has not just been a target of violent attacks by agents of the ruling and ruinous APC, it has now become a soft target of discrimination by hoteliers and the hospitality industry in Abuja.

Yes, even hotels have now become weapons in the hands of those who fear democracy.

Rockview Hotel Cancelled Us Twice, Cites “Order From Above”

On two occasions, Rockview Hotel in Abuja, after agreeing to the use of their facilities for our meetings, without genuine excuse cancelled the grant at the last minute of negotiation.

The first time it happened was when at the last minute they rejected our request to hold our 2nd NEC meeting in June, 2026.Only recently, they refused our utilisation of their facilities for a meeting, saying it was order from above.
Order from above! Who is above the Constitution? Who is above the freedom of association guaranteed to every Nigerian?

Bon Hotel, Wuse Also Shut Its Doors Despite Meeting All Conditions

Similarly, the BON Hotel, Wuse, Abuja bluntly refused our usage of their facilities for a meeting despite meeting all conditions placed on our path.

We met every condition. We paid every fee. We followed every rule. Yet, the doors were slammed in our faces.

NCC Unveiling Almost Scattered – Host Tried To Refund Us At Last Minute

Also, the recent unveiling of our National Campaign Council (NCC) did not happen without drama from the hospitality industry in Abuja.

NDC Campaign Council List Is Healthy Enough To Rescue Nigeria From Poverty – Osa Director

At the last minute, our host called the party to refund the payment made, saying they were no longer interested in making their facilities available, perhaps based on threats and orders from above.

But this time, we refused to bulge. We refused to be intimidated. We refused to be silenced.
However, our refusal to bulge inevitably compelled them to allow us the usage of the facility we have paid for.

This Is Not Democracy – APC Must Allow All Parties To Campaign

This is not democracy. This is dictatorship in democratic clothing. The APC should allow all parties to campaign without let or hindrance, and give Nigerians the opportunity to make their choice on who governs them.

Democracy is not about one party. Democracy is about choice. Democracy is about freedom. And no hotel, no order from above, and no ruling party can take that away from Nigerians.

NDC Calls Out Rockview And Bon Hotel – Nigerians Must Call Them Out Too

In addition, we implore all well-meaning Nigerians and lovers of democracy to call out Rockview and BON Hotel for their anti-people and anti-democratic actions.

History will remember who stood for democracy, and who sold their halls to fear.

A New Nigeria Is Possible – NDC Is Ready To Serve

Nigerians deserve better, and NDC is prepared to serve with passion and patriotism. A New Nigeria is Possible! We can do it.

Speaking on behalf of the party, the National Publicity Secretary of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Osa Director Esq, who signed the statement, declared that the NDC will not be intimidated, will not be silenced, and will not surrender the democratic space to any power.

According to Osa Director Esq, the party remains resolute in its rescue mission and will continue to expose every attempt to muzzle the opposition, no matter who is behind it.
