Why 2025 Igbo Day Celebration In Lagos Under Ohanaeze Ndigbo Should Not Hold

OpenLife Nigeria reports that Igbo Youth Awake For Sustainable Development Initiative, IYASDI, the youth arm of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Lagos has given reasons why the proposed 2025 Igbo Day celebration in Lagos in the name of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Lagos should not hold.

Below is the press statement by the Ohanaeze Ndigbo youth arm

It has come to the attention of Igbo Youth Awake For Sustainable Development Initiative, IYASDI, that a group of people are planning to organize 2025 Igbo Day celebration in Lagos in the name of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Lagos.

As the youth arm of Ndigbo, we hereby state as follows:

{A} That what should be the main focus of Ndigbo at the moment is how to secure the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu who has been in detention since June 2021.

{B} The President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Chief John Azuta Mbata is a great leader with conscience and that is why he did not endorse such gathering under Ohanaeze.

{C} Our findings reveal that this group of people are trying to use Ohanaeze Ndigbo name to extort money from some individuals and giving security assurance to people that the event will hold in Police College, Ikeja or Nwaka Army Barracks, Ojuelegba or Navy Barracks in Navy town, Lagos.

{D} We are warning the general public to ignore such invitation from anyone under the name of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Lagos.

{E} Don’t be convinced by the sugar coated mouth of these individuals {Everest Ozonweke, Patrick Nwanze & Sunday Ossai} parading themselves as Ohanaeze leaders and stakeholders in Lagos. This set of people did same thing at Federal Palace Hotel two years ago and they are still fighting over the money they collected from people.

{F} We are strongly in support of the two Senior Advoctates of Nigeria, SANs, who are offering legal services to Mazi Nnamdi Kanu free of charge, Chief Kanu Agabi, SAN, former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice during Olusegun Obasanjo’s regime and Dr Onyechi Ikpeazu, SAN who will also be angry about such proposed gathering.

{G} Meanwhile, Ndigbo should be reliably informed that the 2025 Ada Ohanaeze Int’l Beauty Pageant and Igbo Personality Honour of the Century {100 Greatest Igbos} are the only events the President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide has endorsed to hold on dates to be announced soon and the state that will host the event.

2025 Igbo day celebration in Lagos is hereby cancelled.
