OpenLife Nigeria reports that the authority of Ghana Police has issued stern warning to married couple who deny their spouse sex.

In a statement that has sparked nationwide conversation, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Dennis Fiakpui has reminded Ghanaians that withholding intimacy in a marriage can be a criminal offense.
Under the Domestic Violence Act 732 (2007), denying your partner sex can be classified as emotional abuse.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA), the Oti Regional Deputy Commander explained that if a spouse is found guilty of causing emotional distress through the denial of sex, they could face up to two years in prison.

The law isn’t one-sided, ACP Fiakpui emphasized that:
“Men can be reported for denying their wives intimacy or refusing to eat their food to cause them pain.

“Women can be reported for using sex as a tool or withholding it to cause unhappiness.
Late nights that cause a spouse emotional distress can also be reported to DOVSSU.”
