Upper East Region lauds Nana Akufo-Addo for Recycling Plant

Upper East Region residents have lauded   President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for the recycling plant in the region.

Upper East Region is the 7th region to benefit from the waste treatment facility being established across Ghana’s 16 regions.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and the Group Chairman of the Jospong Group Dr Joseph Siaw Agyepong cut the sod for the commencement of the project. Others present were traditional leaders, government officials, MMDCES and Jospong Group staff as well as residents. The sod cutting project in the Bolgatanga metropolis witnessed mammoth crowd on October 8 in Sherigu. It is expected to be completed within four months.

It will be recalled that President Akufo-Addo pledged to make Ghana the cleanest city in Africa. To achieve the vision, government partnered Jospong Group for an ultramodern solid waste treatment facility in the 16 regions.

Honourable Cecelia Abena Dapaah stated early 2019 that the country loses about $290 million annually to poor sanitation in Ghana.

Speaking, one of the residents in Sherigu stated “This is a laudable initiative from the Jospong Group and the Government. The establishment of this facility  will solve the unemployment issue among the youth in the region and protect our environment.

“It will also serve as an opportunity in generating income and  boost local economy.

Thomas Aluman Apasinaba II, the chief of Sherigu Naba promised to collaborate with the Jospong Group and the government.

“Thank you Mr. President and to the Jospong Group and it’s Chairman Dr Joseph Siaw Agyepong. On behalf of our community we say Thank you for the ultramodern facility which will be sited on our land.”

Jospong Group Chairman, Siaw Agyepong, in his  speech, canvassed for co operation for the solid waste treatment facility success.

He highlighted the President’s initiative for Ghana to become the cleanest on the African continent.

He applauded President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for the hope he has restored in the private sector.

75 people will be employed directly with 250 people indirectly.
