OpenLife News reports that it was royalty, culture and corporate glamour rolled into one as Globacom, Nigeria’s telecom giant, gave the 2026 Ofala Festival a kingly ending on Wednesday night with a lavish royal banquet in honour of the Obi of Onitsha, His Majesty, Igwe Alfred Nnaemeka Achebe.
The exclusive event, held in Onitsha, had all the trappings of royalty.
The Obi, his cabinet chiefs, Globacom’s trade partners and high-net-worth customers were all present as Glo drew the curtain on this year’s Ofala, which it proudly sponsored.
Speaking at the banquet, Globacom’s Divisional Head, South-East, Mike Ehumadu, said the partnership between corporate bodies and traditional stools like Onitsha is what keeps Nigeria’s culture alive.
He congratulated Igwe Achebe and the entire Onitsha Kingdom for a successful Ofala 2026, stressing that Glo will continue to back festivals that celebrate Nigeria’s identity and show our heritage to the world.
It was not just speeches. It was a full-blown celebration.
Guests were thrilled by electrifying performances from Aniweta Mazeli, Boy o Boy and Groove Band. Popular comedian, MC Ezegetive, had the hall roaring with laughter.
But the highlight for many was Glo’s reward system.
The company rewarded winners of the various age-grade competitions held during Ofala with cash prizes and trophies, celebrating their discipline, competitive spirit and communal unity.
In a major show of appreciation, Globacom also gifted hundreds of bags of premium Basmati rice to all members of the different age-grade associations that participated in the festival.
It was a befitting finale to a festival that continues to project Onitsha and Igbo culture to the world, powered by Glo’s purposeful investment in heritage.
