Turkish President Erdogan
OpenLife Nigeria reports that following the estimated over 200 people killed and 10,000 displaced in attacks by armed bandits in the northwestern Nigerian state of Zamfara last Saturday, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has extended condolences to Nigeria saying the killings are unwarranted.
According to reports, more than 300 gunmen on motorcycles stormed eight villages in the Anka local area in Zamfara on Tuesday and started shooting sporadically, killing at least 30 people.
Attackers also rampaged through 10 villages in Anka and Bukkuyum districts on Wednesday through Thursday, firing at residents and looting and burning homes.
Babandi Hamidu, a resident of Kurfa Danya village, said the assailants were shooting “anyone on sight”.
Expressing his sympathy, Erdogan, who visited Nigeria in October 2021 and announced that his country has increased its diplomatic presence in Africa to 43 missions as well as expressed delight that many Nigerian students are currently studying in Turkey and benefiting from scholarships, said “We are deeply saddened to receive the news that over one hundred civilians lost their lives during several attacks in the Zamfara State.
“We strongly condemn these heinous attacks. We extend our sincere condolences to the relatives of the victims and to the friendly and brotherly people and Government of Nigeria,” he stated.
