Tension Over Likely War Outbreak In PDP Headquarters Tuesday

Tension Over Likely War Outbreak

OpenLife Nigeria reports that palpable tension is enveloping the skyline of Nigeria’s capital, Abuja over likely war outbreak on Tuesday amongst factions in the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

This tension emanated early Monday when former governor Nyesom Wike-backed PDP faction has summoned an emergency National Executive Committee (NEC) and Board of Trustees (BoT) for Tuesday in Abuja.

Curiously, the meeting, according to a statement “Will take place at the PDP national secretariat in Wadata Plaza in Abuja.”

The notice of meeting signed by Samuel Anyanwu of the Wike led faction which has Abdulrahman Mohammed as the national chairman “Said the BoT is expected to convene at 11am.”

Meantime and just last Saturday, November 15, 2025, a former Minister of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs, Kabiru Turaki, was elected as the new National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party.

His election was announced on Saturday night by a former lawmaker representing Anambra Central in the National Assembly, Senator Ben Obi, at the party’s national convention held in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

Obi explained that Turaki ran unopposed after the party’s 2023 governorship candidate in Katsina State, Lado Danmarke, withdrew from the race.

New PDP Chairman, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki

He noted that despite withdrawing, Danmarke still secured 275 votes from delegates, while Turaki polled 1,516 votes to emerge chairman.

“It is therefore clear from the votes cast that Taminu Turaki has won the position of National Chairman of the PDP with a total of 1,516 votes,” Obi declared.

Obi also announced that Solarin Sunday Adekunle won the seat of Deputy National Organising Secretary with 633 votes.

The positions of National Youth Leader and Deputy National Legal Adviser were stepped down, while 17 other offices were uncontested and their nominees returned elected.

Former governor Nyemson Wike

Others present at the convention were the Senate Minority Leader, Abba Moro; former Osun State Governor, Olagunsoye Oyinlola; former Gombe State Governor, Senator Ibrahim Dankwambo; and the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Senator Adolphus Wabara, among others.

With these new set of executives who are expected to have assumed office, it remains to be seen how Wike and his team would dislodge Turaki and his team from the PDP national headquarters on Tuesday.
