SWAT Nabs 40-Year-Old Suspect

 

OpenLife News reports that operatives of the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Unit of the Force Criminal Investigation Department, FCID Abuja, have arrested a suspected arms dealer and recovered one AK-47 rifle and live ammunition in Adamawa State.

The suspect, Alhaji Gayi Ibrahim Yahaya, 40, of Toungo Local Government Area, was arrested on August 25, 2026, following months of intelligence-led operations.

How The Arrest Happened
According to a statement by the Force PRO, SP Funmi Eguaoje, the breakthrough followed  credible intelligence received on March 5, 2026 about suspected members of a criminal network allegedly stockpiling AK-47 rifles and other dangerous weapons in Adamawa and Taraba States.

Acting on the tip, SWAT operatives launched discreet investigations across the two states, leading to the arrest of Yahaya in Toungo.

During the operation, police recovered:
– One AK-47 rifle with breech number S-47275
– Three (3) rounds of live ammunition. 

The Force said the suspect is currently assisting operatives with useful information as investigation continues to uncover how he came about the firearm and to identify other members of the alleged criminal network.

“The Nigeria Police Force remains committed to dismantling criminal networks, recovering illegal arms and ammunition, and ensuring the safety and security of Nigerians,” the statement read.

The police urged members of the public to continue providing credible and timely information to aid intelligence-led policing and the fight against violent crime.

The FCID stated that further developments will be communicated to the public as investigations progress.
