Some People Are Pushing Chief Mbata To Inherit The Crises
OpenLife Nigeria reports that arising from the prolonged disagreement in the leadership hierarchy in the Lagos chapter of Ohanaeze Ndigbo in which Chief Solomon Ogbonna Aguene has obtained a Consent Judgment with CTC which validates his tenure as President till June 2026, recent retreat for NEC members in Enugu further exposes the undercurrent.
In this interview, President Solomon Ogbonna Aguene clarifies the issues and points out those behind the prolonged crises
In recent conversation, you stated that some people are pushing Chief John Azuta Mbata, President General, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, to inherit the crises in Lagos he does not know anything about. Can you clarify that?
Anyway, Chief Azuta Mbata, the President General Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, is a lawyer and a sound politician. He is also a successful business man.
I have said it time and time that it is the same people who said that we cannot give the heart of Ndigbo to a Rivers person.
They campaigned for late Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu for tenure elongation.
But when Iwuanyanwu died, they started canvassing for how Ambassador Okey Emuchay will become the president and Rivers will be completely denied their position.
That is why I like Chief Chidi Anyaegbu {Chisco Motors} who said it can never happen. Chief Anyaegbu always stands on the truth. He said he will wait to see how it was going to play out if Rivers are denied their position and then he will prove to those who are involved in such act that Igbos are one.
But I am surprised now that Everest Ozonweke and few others are trying to penetrate Chief Mbata to feed him with lies that are sweeter than the truth.
They are the people who want Chief Mbata to inherit the Lagos crises he does not know anything about. But I am not afraid because Chief Mbata is a leader. He will hear from both sides.
Okay. But at the moment, how is the crisis in Ohanaeze Ndigbo Lagos?
Well, I have repeatedly told you that there is no crisis in Lagos Ohanaeze. But there are few jobless individuals who always create jobs for themselves through crises in any regime in Ohanaeze Ndigbo Lagos.
But a court of competent jurisdiction has long settled that in Lagos with Consent Judgement with CTC which simply means that we have come together as one and there is no crisis any longer.
However, there is one individual like one Ubochi who is not even a member of Ohanaeze Ndigbo anywhere but labels himself a spokesperson of a body that does not exist. We have later found out that it is just a nick name for himself.
But there was a piece where the same Ubochi Ubochi alleged that there was a retreat in Enugu and you were not invited. Is it true?
Yes, I was informed that there was going to be a retreat in Enugu for NEC members. And some of the NEC members allowed their personal assistants to accompany them to the retreat.
I know that the retreat was for the interest of Ndigbo but if my business does not permit me to attend, I know that my interest will be protected as President, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Lagos.
Now, I can tell you few things that happened before the retreat and during the retreat. Whether you are invited or not, you can attend and make your contributions for the interest of moving Ohanaeze Ndigbo forward. It was not strictly by invitation.
Those people making those allegations are jobless because even after the retreat was over, they were still hanging around looking for someone who will give them money to pay for their regular night bus including balancing their hotel bills which their luggage were still held the hotel management because the national Ohanaeze Ndigbo did not pay for those who are not important especially those who were not properly invited.
Everest Ozonweke went there uninvited and made himself an usher. Sunday Ossai wanted to speak but he was disallowed.
Go and find out if anyone from Lagos made any contribution to the discussions. Some personalities avoided them from taking photograph with them especially Everest and Ossai.
They came back to Lagos and have been complaining that they were only given one meat pie and a bottle of malt.
That happened because those that were important were in the first queue for the buffet and it got finished before they remembered Everest Ozonweke and his crew.
But not to worry, I will tell you what played out from Lagos to Enugu. On the June 4, 2025, I was on my way to Ebonyi State and I met Leo Okafor {Oba Ojoto} at the Ikeja local airport.
We boarded same Air Peace flight from Lagos to Enugu.
Leo Okafor {Oba Ojoto} pleaded with another passenger to take his seat so that he could seat close to me.
During our discussion, he showed me four missed calls from Sunday Ossai. He said he didn’t pick the calls because he knew that the reason Ossai was calling him was because transport support to Enugu.
Oba Ojoto also told me that he has called Ubochi, Everest Ozonweke, Femi Fergusson and Patrick Nwanze that there is nothing they can do against the Consent Judgement and that even if they succeed in vacating it which is not possible, appeal will last more years than before the Consent Judgement was given and Solomon will still remain in the position as President.
I then told him that my destination was Ebonyi and that I was going to look at my house project in the village.
He said he is into solar installation and I said yes, I know. I then told him that he can come to look at the size of my compound and the house at his convenient time. He then told me that he would come.
Indeed, he came the next day which was June 5, 2025.
I told him that my flight back to Lagos would be on June 6, 2025. He then said that since I was going to take my flight back to Lagos from Enugu that we should meet in Enugu in the night before the day of my flight on that same day he came to my village.
When I was in Emene, close to Enugu town, he called me and I told him that in few minutes I would be in Enugu town. He then said that I should come straight to his hotel where he lodged.
He directed me and I met him where he lodged and the reason was for us to finalize the discussion about the solar installation in my house in the village. It was from there that he narrated to me about how the retreat went.
He then said that as far as Lagos is concerned that I am the president whether anyone likes it or not.
When I was with Oba Ojoto that night, I told him that he is my friend and that he has the capacity to lead Ohanaeze Ndigbo Lagos but the problem he has is that he is not always stable with his decisions.
I also told him that there will be no zoning in the Lagos Ohanaeze Ndigbo presidency which is not in our constitution so that people who have capacity can contest from different states of Igbo land.
I also explained that it is only national President General position that that should be zoned because anyone who is interested can contest that position any where the person lives in the world provided the person is that state it is zoned to.
So, that is just a highlight of what happened. You can imagine someone like Parick Nwanze indicating interest to become president of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Lagos.
I wonder what he is going to do. Does he think it is about sugar coated mouth to deceive people what he is not up to?
People should know that stammerer is a blunder in leadership.
So, for Ubochi to say that I was hanging around is very good for every one to know the kind of human being he is.
Ubochi is completely empty. I cannot even be discussing anything about Ohanaeze with Ubochi because he is not even a member but he wants to be the president of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Lagos on media.
Above all, I am not a diplomatic leader. I say it the way it is . I am a leader by birth with garment of grace of God in my life.
Ubochi Ubochi , Everest Ozonweke and their team are like dogs pursuing monkey. The dog is just doing exercise because it cannot catch the monkey because monkey can jump from tree to tree.
