OpenLife Nigeria reports that as the clock ticks and the 2023 presidential primary election of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC is just days away, there seems to be lots of rumbling and outright betrayal in the camp of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, a leading presidential hopeful.
Insiders are saying that the political tactician who has been visiting State delegates may been banking on emptiness.
Specifically, those in the know are pointing at Senator Kashim Shettima who they accuse of misleading Tinubu with false hope.
What has however, given credence to these allegations was the visit of Rotimi Amaechi last Sunday.
Governor Babagana Zulum who received the immedriate past Transportation Minister who was in the State on Sunday to canvas for delegates votes, revealed how Borno would vote during the primary election.
During the conversation, governor Zulum made it clear to Amaechi that delegates voting pattern would only be decided by President Muhammadu Buhari and no one else.
“Borno state delegates will vote based on their conscience. But again, our leader, general Muhammadu Buhari, is very important in this political equation,” he said.
“We are still waiting for him to tell us what to do and we will follow. His advice is very important so we have to wait for his advice,” he said.
Meanwhile, Senator Shettima who represents Borno Central has consistently assured Tinubu of wholesale votes from delegates ostensibly from a convincing angle that he controls the Borno State political machinery.
Over time, the Senator has argued that Tinubu stood by Buhari when northern establishment including top Generals went all out against him, adding that in 2023, Asiwaju should be supported and be voted for.
Speaking with OpenLife Monday evening, a serving House of Representatives member from Borno State said that Shettima’s assurance to Tinubu of delegates’ votes is “illusionary.”
The Reps member who does not want to be publicly quoted said:
“What governor Zulum said is the truth. All of us know Buhari is not supporting Tinubu and Borno will take final instruction for the President. So, why is Shettima still giving him false hope?” He asked.
