Police arrests wanted IPOB kingpin in Imo

<p><strong>A dreaded kingpin of the proscribed secessionist group&comma; IPOB&comma; Uchenna Chukwu has been arrested in Imo State&period;<&sol;strong><&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>Police spokesperson&comma; Mike Abattam revealed this in a statement on Friday&comma; October 8&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>The 34-year-old IPOB member was arrested at Ehime-Mbano local government area of the state&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>Abattam explained that the police also killed an IPOB member who joined other members to frustrate the kingpin’s arrest&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>The police said Chukwu participated  in killing police officers and burning police stations in Imo and had long been declared wanted by the police&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>He further stated that the police stormed his shop in the Ehime Mbano area&comma; following credible information to arrest him&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p><em><strong>&OpenCurlyDoubleQuote;The suspect raised the alarm alerting members of his gang&comma; picked a cutlass and rushed at one of the police operatives and attempted chopping off his head but was overpowered&comma; disarmed and the cutlass recovered&period;<&sol;strong><&sol;em><&sol;p>&NewLine;<h1><a href&equals;"https&colon;&sol;&sol;openlife&period;ng&sol;buhari-to-sack-agf-malami-14-others&sol;"><span style&equals;"color&colon; &num;ff6600&semi;">Major Shake Up As Buhari Moves To Sack Malami&comma; 14 Others<&sol;span><&sol;a><&sol;h1>&NewLine;<p><em><strong> &OpenCurlyDoubleQuote;While this was on&comma; the already alerted members who came in their numbers to rescue him engaged the police in a gun duel&comma; and in the process&comma; one of them was neutralised while others escaped with bullet wounds&period;”&comma; <&sol;strong><&sol;em>the police statement read&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>He added that one locally-made double-barrelled pistol with two expended cartridges&comma; two live cartridges&comma; and charms were recovered at the scene&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p><strong>By Doris Israel Ijeoma<&sol;strong><&sol;p>&NewLine;
