OpenLife Nigeria reports that ahead the 2027 governorship election in Ogun, Jelili Kayode Amusan, a politician and Patron of the Trade Leaders Council of Nigeria, has drawn a political battle line against Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi.
Yayi, 55, currently representing Ogun West in the Senate, has not left anyone in doubt that he is interested in the Ogun number one seat and indeed, the man to beat.
Clearly, insiders say Yayi’s inspiration is largely drawn from the zone he hails from which is Ogun West, roundly described as a zone that has not tasted governor power since the rebirth of democratic practice 26 years ago.
But those who do not forget easily say that despite Yayi’s deep pocket, his enthusiasm could just be child’s play given that Ogun politics is not patterned on a zoning highway.
Citing the emergence of Dapo Abiodun from Ogun East as the governor in 2019 when political pundits had zeroed in on Ogun West, they point at some sins allegedly committed by Yayi among which is his disregards for elders in the All Progressives Party, APC, a development that may count against him during primary.
However and as it seems, the interest of Jelili Kayode Amusan who was a member of the Federal House of Representatives representing Abeokuta North/Obafemi Owode/Odeda Federal constituency in the Ogun Central Senatorial District of Ogun state, may just be Yayi’s encumbrance.
Feeling assured, Amusan in Ogun West while meeting with his campaign group days ago, said that he would build on the legacies of governor Dapo Abiodun.
The gathering, OpenLife gathered, recorded an intimidating crowd.
