Osoba Draws Battle Line with Amosun

;

OpenLife Nigeria reports that the age-long political battle between Aremo Olusegun Osoba and Ibinkule Amosun has been renewed. This time, it is in respect of the 2027 Ogun Central Senate seat.

According to records, Aremo Osoba, in his capacity as the leader of then Action Congress of Nigeria, CAN, endorsed Ibikunle Amosun for the 2011 governorship, a development that led to a resounding success despite the robust incumbency factor of then governor Gbenga Daniel who supported Gboyega Isiaka of the Peoples Party of Nigeria, PPN who hails from Ogun West senatorial district.

However, that political romance was ill fated as it turned out that the two Egba born political heavy weights fell apart before the 2015 general elections, in which case Aremo Osoba left for the Social Democratic Party, SDP with his supporters.

Thereafter, following Osoba’s return to the All Progressives Congress, APC, both Osoba and Amosun appeared to have settled.

But a political matter that seemed settled has been rudely fractured, once again on account of the 2027 Senate ambition of Amosun.

Evidence manifested when on Sunday, January 25, 2026, over 10,000 supporters of the accountant gathered at the Ake Palace Amphitheater in Abeokuta to celebrate his 68th birthday.

Amosun used the opportunity to drum supports for the re election of Tinubu for a second term in office.

“In the interest of Nigeria, we should respect the principle of rotation. The North has just completed eight years in office. It is now the turn of the South, and we currently have President Tinubu, who represents the South and, by extension, the entire country,” Amosun said.

Though the University of Westminster Master of Arts in International Finance holder did not openly announce his 2027 Senate ambition, the tone of the ceremony including the mammoth crowd struck loyalists in Osoba’s camp who concluded that “Something urgent must be done.”

Arising from that, an APC Ogun Central Stakeholders meeting was convened at Osoba’s residence on Monday with “full permission” from the APC leader.

The closed-door meeting brought together a broad spectrum of party leadership and elected officials to deliberate on crucial party affairs and matters concerning the district.

Notable attendees included:

· National Assembly Members: Senator Shuaib Afolabi Salisu (representing Ogun Central), Hon. Afolabi Moruf Afuwape, and Hon. Ibrahim Isiaka.
· Party Leadership: The Ogun Central Senatorial District Chairman, Chief Sunday Sowunmi.

· Local Government Chairmen: All local government chairmen within the senatorial district, led by the ALGON Chairman in Ogun State, Hon. (Dr.) Folasade Adeyemo.

· State Officials: Several commissioners serving in the Ogun State government.
· Party Executives: Invited members of the APC State Executive Committee.

Though specific resolutions from the deliberations were not immediately made public, a credible source told OpenLife that “It is to stop Ibikunle Amosun. You know Amosun can never be loyal to anybody. The leaders will always find it difficult to work with him.

So, measures are being put in place to stop him and they will stop him. I can assure you that,” the source stated.
