Nigeria is not safe currently needs urgent overhaul
OpenLife Nigeria reports that a Professor of Political Science at the Lagos State University, Professor Odion Akhaine is unhappy at the level of insecurity in Nigeria.
The Human Rights activist who is also an academic expressed his feeling in unmistakable terms, describing Nigeria to be in a state of dystopia.
In an exclusive interview with OpenLife Nigeria, Akhaine decried the unaccountable use of budgetary allocations and sued for a review of government policies on insecurity.
“The security situation is pathetic. No where is safe in the country. Despite budgetary and extra budgetary allocations to defence, there has been no result, rather the situation is deteriorating and Nigeria is in a state of dystopia. It appears to me that it has a latent function. In other words, an ulterior motive. In the north-east, the insurgents are a segment of the kanuri people. In the North-West it is the Fulani bandits. You have a security architecture that is fully in the hands of the Fulani elite. In this context, a solution is an illusion. It is seems to me that it is the same conquest agenda. The Hausa and other indigenous communities in the North West and Middle Belt are being killed and displaced. While the southern half are under siege.
“As per funding of the security sector, no amount is too much to secure the lives and property of Nigerians but there has to be accountability and transparency in how the money is spent. Currently, it is opaque. God helps Nigeria,” Akhaine supplicated.
