Nigeria At 62: AGG Reflects on independence from colonialism, Tasks Buhari, Obaseki On Infrastructure, Security Upgrades

OpenLife Nigeria reports that Advocacy for Good Governance, AGG, a non government organization made up of Edo Diasporas in Asia Continent has congratulated the government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the government of Edo State on the occasion of the country’s 62nd independence anniversary.
Reflecting on the experience of Nigeria’s nationhood and the prospect of its greatness, the association noted that Nigeria is blessed with boundless possibilities and opportunities which require unity, peace and justice to optimize its potential for all inclusive growth.
The group however regretted that 62 years after, the country is still bedeviled with challenges that limit its progress as a nation.
Given that another opportunity beckons for citizens to elect fresh leaders into office, the association stressed the need for all stakeholders including but not limited to traditional rulers, youths, women groups and civil societies to demonstrate absolute faith in the greatness of the country and be patriotic in the 2023 choices.
In a statement signed on behalf of the association by Mr. Benson Ehiagwina, the group maintained that the 2023 opportunity should be used to correct the errors in the past so that the country can truly live up to its name as the giant of Africa.
“As a country and as a people, the 62nd independence anniversary calls for more commitment to nation building. The developments in Japan and other countries in Asia are not rocket science. It is achievable only when we collectively commit to patriotic actions towards growth,” he advised.
In the same breadth, the association with a vision to engineer the re invention of Edo State to attain her socio-economic, cultural and political goals, advised President Muhammadu Buhari and governor Godwin Obaseki to prioritise its focus on security of life, property as well as infrastructural renewal in their remaining days in office.
Specifically, the association pointed out the deplorable state of roads in the State especially the Benin-Sapele Road, Benin-Agbor-Asaba Road, Lagos-Benin Road and the Benin-Auchi Road which have become a nightmare to travellers with horrifying experiences.
“President Buhari and governor Obaseki must up their games in road construction and rehabilitation. The quantum of economic loss and insecurity across Edo must be addressed,” the association warned.
