My Regret In Life – Nollywood Star Sanyeri Opens Up

OpenLife reports that Nollywood comic legend Olaniyi Afonja, popularly known as Sanyeri, has revealed a personal regret that strikes a chord with many: not pursuing his education earlier in life.

The actor candidly admitted that as a youngster, he saw school as a burden rather than a stepping stone for his future.

Speaking on the television show Behind The Fame, Sanyeri reflected on his upbringing, career, and the lessons life has taught him.

“When children are in school, they think education is for their parents, not realizing it is for their own future. Back then, it felt like punishment,” he confessed.

The veteran actor explained that only with maturity did he come to understand the long-term value of formal education.

He admitted that his early mindset had hindered his academic growth a decision he now deeply regrets.

“I regret not furthering my education. I have taken steps to continue, and when the result comes out, I will show it,” he said. “Nowadays, education has no age limit.”

Sanyeri’s words underscore a universal truth: it’s never too late to learn. His embrace of lifelong learning offers inspiration to anyone who feels they’ve missed the chance to pursue their academic dreams.

Having spent over 30 years in the Yoruba movie industry, Sanyeri is best known for his comedic roles. Yet, he notes that comedy wasn’t where he started.

Through perseverance and talent, he carved a niche that made him one of the most recognizable faces in Yoruba cinema.

During the interview, he paid homage to mentors who shaped his early career, including the late Prince Adeoye and Hakeem Ajala.

“Their guidance played a key role in my development as a performer,” he said.

Sanyeri also shared the story behind his iconic stage name. Originally belonging to another actor, the name became permanently linked to him after he stepped in to perform when the original actor fell ill. The audience loved his performance, and the name stuck.

Beyond laughter and fame, Sanyeri’s journey is now also a tale of self-reflection and personal growth. His honesty about education and his steps to continue learning send a powerful message:

it’s never too late to chase knowledge, and personal development is a lifelong journey.
