Mohbad: Life, Time And Aborted Dreams

Openlife Nigeria reports that Nigerian singer and Naira Marley former protégé, Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba,  known musically as Mohbad, has passed away at the age of 27 years. The Nigerian rapper, singer and songwriter hailed from Lagos.
Like Tupac Amaru Shakur { June 16,  1971-September13,  1996} an American rapper, widely considered one of the most influential and successful rappers of all time and  known by his stage names 2Pac who died at the age of 25, the cause of death is unclear at press time but a source close to his management has confirmed his demise without divulging any other details.
Before his standoff with Naira Marley, he was signed to Marlian Records where his popularity soared.
The singer will be remembered for his hit singles like Fell Good, Ponmo and KPK (Ko Por Ke) with Rexxie.
Specifically, he was best known for his hit singles “Ponmo, Feel Good”, and “KPK (Ko Por Ke)” (you will always be remembered) with Rexxie which was nominated three times for The Headies awards 2022.
Since the news of his demise broke, the social media has been awash with comments, mostly expressing shock and disbelief.

According to international show promoter, Olamide Baron, the singer is supposed to be in the United Kingdom in November for his UK tour.
Background
He was born in Lagos, Nigeria as Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, also known as Imole  on 8 June 1996.
Music career
He released his debut album, Light EP, in the fourth quarter of 2020 as a follow-up to his viral song “Ponmo,” which featured Naira Marley and Lil Kesh.
In 2022, he released Peace produced by Rexxie.[7] He peaked TurnTable charts top 50 in 2021 and top 100 in 2022.

Mohbad issued his first EP, Light, after agreeing to a record deal with Marlian Records World in 2019. The eight songs on the EP features Davido, Naira Marley, and Lil Kesh.
Naira Marly served as executive producer for the eight-track EP, which also bears the production stamps of SB, Rexxie, P.Beat, and Austin Sinister.
Controversy and NDLEA arrest
In February 2022, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) arrested Mohbad, Zinoleesky and four other people following their possession of illegal substances like MDMA and cannabis at their home in Lekki, Lagos.
Some viral videos on social media showed NDLEA operatives breaking into the musicians’ home in the Lekki district of Lagos State in the early hours of Thursday morning.
According to witnesses, the officials carried out the arrest without any search warrants and mistreated the Marlian singers. The NDLEA officers were seen hitting the musician with clubs and shooting into the air, forcing them into waiting trucks.
NDLEA confirmed the raid, “our men raided an area in Idado estate where Naira Marley’s boys stay.”[16] Quantities of cannabis and molly were recovered from their apartment and car,” he told TheCable Lifestyle.
Later, the NDLEA released Mohbad, Zinoleesky and 4 other and three others.
Domestic violence allegation against Naira Marley
After two years, he announced his departure from Marlian Records. On 5 October 2022, Mohbad accused singer Naira Marley of domestic violence and stated that his former boss ordered people to beat him up.[19] When he confronted Marley about his decision to employ a different manager to handle his music and business affairs.
Awards and nominations
MohBad’ debut album, “Light EP,” released in the fourth quarter of 2020, showcased his musical prowess. The album followed the success of his viral track “Ponmo,” which featured Naira Marley and Lil Kesh. His talent earned him five nominations at The Beatz Awards 2021 and a place in Audiomack’s top 21 afrobeat artists of 2021..
