Lionel Messi Faces Challenge In Inter Miami
OpenLife Nigeria reports that soccer legend, Lionel Messi, is facing challenge in his new club, Inter Miami.
This has been made known by one of his team mates, Robert Taylor.
According to the story, Lionel Messi is taking English lessons but still has a way to go. Robert Taylor has revealed Messi is learning English to help adapt to life in America and that the Argentina star knows a few words – but insisted there is no language barrier between them on the field.
‘I’m taking Spanish lessons and he’s taking English lessons,’ Taylor told Sky Sports. ‘Still, the conversation level isn’t great, but, on the field, it’s different.
‘I feel like football is a language where if you link up with someone, you don’t necessarily have to speak the same language – you just play well together.
‘I’ve heard him say a couple things in English to me and couple of players around him, so I think he speaks pretty good English.’
Messi was seen laughing and joking with Spanish-speaking Jordi Alba in Inter Miami’s Tuesday training session, a day before he returns to action in the Leagues Cup.
The 36-year-old Messi spoke in Spanish to the 20,000 Miami fans that went to his star-studded unveiling last month which was presented by Miami co-owner David Beckham.
He has signed a two-and-a-half year deal with Miami and hasn’t been living in the US for even a month yet. Alba, meanwhile, joined up with his new team in the last few days and had his very first training session on Monday. He left Barcelona in the summer when his contract expired and joins up once again with Messi – a former teammate of his in Spain.
Alba, 34, may even make the squad for Wednesday’s Leagues Cup game against Orlando City.
But all the focus will be on Messi once again at DRV PNK Stadium on Wednesday after his fantastic start to life in the US – scoring three goals in his first two games.
Messi and Taylor have linked up well since the World Cup winner joined the Miami team.
Taylor, like Messi, has scored three in his last two games. The pair scored two goals each in the 4-0 win over Atlanta United last week and Taylor also scored against Cruz Azul – Messi’s debut.
‘I’ve watched him play all my life at the highest level, and now, to play with him and to be in the same team as him is crazy,’ Taylor, a Finland international, said.
‘His decision-making is unbelievable – I can’t see him doing a wrong decision at all during the game or training, so you just want to try and learn.’
Miami played Orlando already this season in MLS and lost 3-1, but that was without Messi and Sergio Busquets on the team.
