Lagos Deputy Governor, Obafemi Hazmat, Speaks On Igbo-Must-Go Threats

Lagos Deputy Governor

OpenLife Nigeria reports that the deputy governor of Lagos State, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, has opened up on a Igbo must go threat which has generated reactions across divide in Nigeria.

The threat, which appeared on the X handle LagosPedia, had threatened a massive protest from August 20th to 30th, 2024, under the hashtag #IgboMustGo.

However, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu in a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Gboyega Akosile, has distanced himself and the Lagos State Government from the “reckless, divisive, and dangerous rhetoric,” emphasising that Lagos remains a home to all Nigerian citizens regardless of their ethnic nationality.

Speaking further on the issue, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat also condmened the threat saying that it has no place in the administrative policy of Lagos State government under the leadership of governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

Dr. Hamzat who spoke on Arise TV morning programme on Tuesday, August 6, explained that the Lagos State government team’s visit to condole with the family of late of Nigerian singer and songwriter, Onyeka Onwenu, is a demonstration of the value Lagos government places on the life of every Lagosian irrespective of tribe or language.

The deputy governor also stated that the government is pained by the sudden of death of Aribemchukwu, daughter of Justice Rita Ofili-Ajumogobia, who was murdered in her apartment on Bembe Street, Parkview Estate, Ikoyi area of Lagos last week.

He noted that no stone will be left unturned to ensure that justice is served in line with the commitment to the safety of life and property of every Lagosian.
