Korean Ambassador Meet Keyamo
OpenLife Nigeria reports that as Nigeria records impressive showings at the global socio-economic sphere, countries around the world are re-strengthening their diplomatic ties with the President Buhari-led federal government of Nigeria.
On November 3, the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Nigeria, Sierria Leone and Liberia, Ambassador Kim Young-chae and his team were guests of honour at the office of the Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Mr. Festus Keyamo, SAN.
In a statement signed by Tunde Moshood, Special Assistant, Media and Communications to the Minister, the Korean envoy visited the honourable Minister in company of his deputy, Kyungwon Bahng and the Consul, Park Keunwon.
He emphasized the need to step up the bilateral relations between Nigeria and the Republic of Korea.
“I resumed here in January, 2021 and I thought the need to step up the mutually beneficial bilateral relations between our countries is paramount to discuss.
“I have been visiting government offices to garner support and yours, as the Ministry in charge of Labour and Employment, we will be needing your cooperation, especially for the candidacy of our former Foreign Minister, Kang Kyung-wha who’s interested in the leadership of the International Labour Organisation in Geneva, Switzerland next year, 2022.
“We know how influential Nigeria is, amongst the comity of nations and of course, we are aware Nigerian votes is very important during the ILO election which is slated for next year, 2021, the special envoy stated.
“We would want a total support from Nigeria and Nigerians towards making our candidacy a reality in the forthcoming ILO election in Geneva.
In his response, the Minister gave him his words by promising to take the matter up officially, both amongst his colleagues and at the federal level, “and we won’t just stop there, Keyamo continued, we’ll make sure we get the support of the NLC hirachy too.
They agreed on the need for a mutually beneficial relationship in the areas of training and skill acquisitions as a way of generating more employment opportunities for Nigerians and Koreans.
The Korean Ambassador however proposed an official visit for the Minister and key aides in order to understudy some of Korea’s skill acquisition programmes with a view to formalizing the employment schemes.
