OpenLife Nigeria reports Goodluck Ebele Azikiwe Jonathan, a Nigerian politician who served as the President of Nigeria from 2010 to 2015 is currently in the Republic of Mali, a landlocked country in West Africa.
Mali is the eighth-largest country in Africa, with an area of just over 1,240,000 square kilometers and population of 19.1 million
The former President on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, left Nigeria and arrived in Bamako in the afternoon of May 9.
He is leading other members of the Ecowas mediation team to continue the dialogue and consultations with the government and the good people of Mali on next steps as they seek to advance the processes for democracy and development.
Incidentally, he was flown into the Mali by a Nigerian first female Airforce pilot who was commissioned under Goodluck Ebele Azikiwe Jonathan’s administration between 2010 and 2015.
So excited about it, the former President wrote on his Facebook wall:

“I am pleased to have been flown to Bamako, Mali, by a pair of Nigerian Airforce pilots one of whom is Blessing Liman, a committed NAF flying officer who emerged as Nigeria’s first female military pilot under our administration,” Jonathan flown by Pilot Blessing, stated

It would be recalled that the former Nigerian President was appointed by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) as a special envoy to head its mediation mission in Mali in July 2020.
“Given your position as the former president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the great role and contributions your tenure offered to the maintenance of peace, security and stability in our region, I have the honor, in consultation with the Chair of the Authority, H.E. Issoufou Mahamadou, President of the Republic of Niger, to communicate to you the decision to appoint you as ECOWAS Special Envoy for the sociopolitical crisis in Mali,” a letter signed by ECOWAS Commission President Jean-Claude Kassi Brou stated
Jonathan’s mission is expected to focus on facilitating dialogue with all Malian parties including President Ibrahim Boubacar Keita, opposition leaders, religious organizations and civil society to resolve the worsening socio-political situation in the country, according to the report.
