<h4>Jigawa 2023&colon; Sule Lamido In Dilemma<&sol;h4>&NewLine;<p><strong><a href&equals;"https&colon;&sol;&sol;openlife&period;ng&sol;">OpenLife Nigeria<&sol;a><&sol;strong> reports that Alhaji Sule Lamido&comma; a man described as the godfather of Jigawa State politics&comma; is in dilemma&period;<br &sol;>&NewLine;The opposition Peoples Democratic Party&comma; PDP stalwart is said to be critically worried over the unsuspecting fate that befell his 2023 aspiration&period;<br &sol;>&NewLine;Ahead the 2023 general election&comma; Sule Lamido who is Atiku Abubakar’s staunch supporter in Jigawa State has literarily conquered the State by ensuring that he won a Senate ticket&comma; his son&comma; Mustapha Lamido&comma; won the governorship ticket&comma; his daughter won the House of Representatives ticket&comma; another of his son&comma; Aminu Lamido won the State House Assembly ticket as well as his nephews&comma; Nakudu and Faruk Adamu Aliyu who won Reps and State Assembly tickets respectively&period;<br &sol;>&NewLine;However&comma; as the campaigns begin with hopes of winning all the positions for his family&comma; the former governor has been dumped by his followers&period;<br &sol;>&NewLine;Information has it that over 3000 supporters of the People&&num;8217&semi;s Democratic Party PDP have decamped to the ruling All Progressive Congress APC in Ilirowa village in Buji local government&comma; Jigawa State<br &sol;>&NewLine;Receiving the decampees on Monday&comma; state Assembly member representing Birnin Kudu constituency Siraja Muhammad Kantoga appreciated their efforts for dumping the PDP and embraced the progressive journey for the development of the state&period;<br &sol;>&NewLine;The member who was represented by his co-ordinator&comma; Nura Suleiman Jidawa assured them of equal treatment like any other member of the party<br &sol;>&NewLine;He however urged them to work hard for the success of the party in the upcoming 2023 general elections&period;<br &sol;>&NewLine;&&num;8220&semi;Ilirowa village is one of the strongholds of the PDP and with this development&comma; I am sure there will be no more PDP in the area&&num;8221&semi;<br &sol;>&NewLine;Speaking on behalf of the decampees&comma; Malam Lasisi said that they decided to dump PDP for APC based on its good policies and programs for the development of the state and the country&period;<br &sol;>&NewLine;He&comma; however&comma; assured us to work for the victory of the party&&num;8217&semi;s coming 2023 poll&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>Born on 30 August 1948 in Bamaina&comma; Birnin Kudu Local Government Area of Jigawa State Nigeria&comma; Lamido entered politics as a member of the left-of-center People&&num;8217&semi;s Redemption Party &lpar;PRP&rpar; in the Nigerian Second Republic&period; He became National Secretary of the <a href&equals;"https&colon;&sol;&sol;www&period;vanguardngr&period;com&sol;">Social Democratic Party during the Nigerian Third Republic<&sol;a>&comma; where he received criticism for his handling of the June 12&comma; 1993 presidential elections won by Moshood Abiola&comma; who was prevented from taking office<br &sol;>&NewLine;When the military ruler General Sani Abacha announced his plan to return to democracy&comma; Lamido was a founding member of the Social Progressive Party&comma; and was National Secretary of the new party&period; He was imprisoned in 1998 by Abacha for criticising Abacha’s plan to perpetuate himself in office&period; After Abacha&&num;8217&semi;s unexpected death in June 1998&comma; General Abdulsalami Abubakar announced a revised transition strategy and new parties were formed to contest the 1999 elections&period; Lamido became a member of the PDP&period;<br &sol;>&NewLine;He ran for Governor of Jigawa State in the 1999 elections at the start of the Nigerian Fourth Republic&comma; but was defeated by the All People&&num;8217&semi;s Party &lpar;APP&rpar; candidate Ibrahim Saminu Turaki&period;<br &sol;>&NewLine;President Olusegun Obasanjo appointed Lamido Foreign Minister in June 1999&comma; causing friction with Lamido&&num;8217&semi;s patron Abubakar Rimi who had been turned down as Obasanjo&&num;8217&semi;s Vice-Presidential partner and was lobbying for the Foreign Minister job&period; Tensions between Lamido and Rimi lingered on&period; In December 2003 the two disagreed over the choice of chairman of a committee to investigate the zonal chairman of the party&comma; with the argument degenerating into what one delegate described as &&num;8220&semi;unseeming behavior&&num;8221&semi;&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;
