Ohaneze Ndigbo, the socio cultural organization of South Eastern Nigeria, has been embroiled in crises, resulting into the emergence of factions.
Chief Nnamdi Nwigwe odenjinji, KSC, has claimed, over and again, that he is the President Ohanaeze Indigbo Lagos state.
But in a chat, Chief Solomon Ogbonna Aguene(Udochia) denied the existence of faction in Lagos Ohanaeze Indigbo saying “There are no crises in the Ohanaeze Ndi Igbo Lagos State and no faction. I am the authentic and elected President, Lagos Ohanaeze Indigbo. As comedians may say, everything about Igbo man is commercial.”
But when reminded of Chief Nnamdi Nwigwe’s claims, Aguene explained that “No one is claiming to be the President of Ohanaeze Ndi Igbo Lagos State. But by birth, every Igbo person is Ohanaeze. However, I don’t know the name you mentioned because I have not seen such name in our register. In our rule, you cannot contest any position in Ohanaeze if you are not a financial member,” he clarified.
He however, added that “Please if you come across anyone who wants to use Ohanaeze president to extort money from politicians, please contact the police and make sure he gives you the number to call national president, Chief Bar John Nnaya Nwodo. By doing that, you will be rewarded by Lagos Ohanaeze and the national leadership,” he said.
Aguene further stated that the cultural association would be organizing a remembrance event for late Francis Adekunle Fajuyi, first military governor of Western Region who died alongside Major General Aguiyi Ironsi, then Head of State and Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in Ibadan on July 29, 1966 during a military coup that ousted that government.
