Funke Akindele Wins  NFVCB Awards

Applause filled the room, cameras flashed, and the energy was electric as Nollywood heavyweight Funke Akindele stepped forward to receive multiple honours from the National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB) a powerful nod to her unstoppable box office streak.

The recognition ceremony, held at the NFVCB’s Ikoyi office in Lagos on Friday, brought together top industry stakeholders, guild leaders and practitioners who gathered to celebrate a filmmaker whose consistency has reshaped Nollywood’s commercial landscape.

Akindele clinched the Box Office Champion Award (2020) for her groundbreaking smash hit Omo Ghetto: The Saga, a film that set new revenue benchmarks.

Her dominance didn’t stop there. She also secured the Audience Choice Award (2024/2025) and the Box Office Champion Award (2024/2025) for Everybody Loves Jenifa.

Adding to the growing list of accolades, she received the Box Office Champion Award (2025/2026) for Behind The Scenes further cementing her reputation as Nollywood’s box office queen.

Clearly moved by the honour, Akindele later took to Instagram to reflect on the milestone moment.

“Yesterday was truly special. I was honoured and recognised for my hard work and consistency in the entertainment industry, and my heart is full of gratitude.

My sincere appreciation to Dr Shaibu Husseini, Executive Director of the Nigerian Film and Video Censors Board, and to Honourable Hannatu Musawa, Minister of Art, Culture, Tourism and the Creative Economy of Nigeria, for this incredible recognition.

Thank you to all the guilds and associations who showed up in love and support — AGN, AMP, CEAN, DGN, RATTAWU.

This award belongs to God, my amazing fans, my family, my hardworking team, and every colleague who has walked this journey with me.

I dedicate this to every creative who dares to dream big and stay consistent.

Thank you all for believing in me and in the vision. The journey continues, and the best is yet to come.”

For many in attendance, the awards were more than plaques they were a celebration of resilience, reinvention and relentless excellence.

With each new project, Akindele continues to raise the bar, proving that her reign at the top of Nollywood is not slowing down anytime soon.
