Michael Collins Ajereh, popularly known as Don Jazzy, was born on November 26, 1982, in Umuahia, Abia State, Nigeria, to parents of Isoko (Delta State) and Igbo descent. Now in his early 40s, he stands out as one of Nigeria’s most influential music executives, record producers, singers, songwriters, entrepreneurs, and philanthropists.

Don Jazzy began his music journey in the United Kingdom, where he worked various jobs including as a security guard while developing his production skills. He returned to Nigeria in 2004 and co-founded Mo’ Hits Records with D’banj, producing numerous hit songs that helped popularize Afrobeats on a global scale.

 

Following the label’s end, he launched Mavin Records in 2012, building it into a powerhouse by signing and nurturing major talents such as Tiwa Savage, Reekado Banks, Rema, and others.

 

His production style fuses traditional African rhythms with contemporary sounds, and he gained international recognition in 2011 when signed as a producer by Kanye West’s GOOD Music label. Don Jazzy’s credits span iconic tracks for many of Nigeria’s biggest artists.
