Former US Vice President

OpenLife Nigeria reports that former United States of America Vice President, Kamala Harris, has applauded President Donald Trump for the success in restoring peace to Middle East.

Just yesterday, US President Donald Trump and other world leaders signed the first phase of the Gaza ceasefire agreement during a summit in Egypt after Israeli hostages and Palestinians prisoners and detainees were released.

Trump posed in front of a banner which read “Peace 2025” as he greeted individually the world leaders attending the event, including Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas.

The US President, Egypt’s President Sisi, Qatar’s Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, and Turkey’s President Erdogan placed their signature on the document that sealed the first phase of the ceasefire deal.

“We’ve achieved what everybody said was impossible – at long last, we have peace in the Middle East,” said Trump during a news conference.

Reacting, Kamala Harris applauded the move by President Trump who galvanized other leaders to achieve the peace accord.

“Today is an important first step toward a more hopeful future. I commend the leaders and partners whose efforts made this agreement possible, including the President and his team,” Harris stated in the statement she personally signed.

The statement titled “STATEMENT FROM VICE PRESIDENT KAMALA HARRIS” and dated October 13, 2025 reads in full:

I am thankful and deeply encouraged that this ceasefire has brought long-awaited moments of joy and reunion – as 20 Israeli hostages are finally reunited with their loved ones and Palestinian families and the people of Gaza begin to receive desperately needed relief from unimaginable suffering.

Through diplomacy and persistence, today is an important first step toward a more hopeful future. I commend the leaders and partners whose efforts made this agreement possible, including the President and his team.

There is still much more work to do to secure a lasting peace, ensure the safety and dignity of every innocent life, and build a future where Israelis and Palestinians can live side by side in freedom and security,” Harris said.

It would be recalled that Kamala Harris, 61 and a democrat, contested the 2024 presidential race with Donald Trump.

She began campaigning after Biden stepped out of the race after stumbling badly in a June presidential debate with Trump.

His performance sparked concerns about his ability to serve until the end of a second term in 2029, when he would be 86.

Biden dropped out of the race on July 21 and endorsed his vice president. Harris quickly took over the Democratic campaign.

She was seen among many Democrats as a potential saviour for her party: the first Black woman and the first person of South Asian descent who could reach the Oval Office.

Four years earlier, she broke the same barriers for the vice presidency by becoming Biden’s second in command.

Harris ran an energetic campaign focused on moving away from Trump’s dark message of economic ruin and immigrants flooding the country.

A key element of her platform was her advocacy for women’s reproductive freedom, a rallying cry that resonated with many young voters who flocked to her rallies.

The Harris campaign had hoped for a surge of support from women.

But it wasn’t enough to overcome the deep anger among US voters over high inflation, the cost of basic necessities such as food and housing, and worries about undocumented immigration, according to exit polls.

Trump’s promise to return to a “golden age of America” saw the key battleground states move decisively away from the Democrats.

Conceding defeat, Kamala Harris reassured her supporters that, while they did not win the United States presidential election that year, the fight was far from over.

“The outcome of the election is not what we wanted, not what we fought for, not what we voted for,” she said in a concession speech to a crowd of students and supporters at Howard University in Washington, DC, her alma mater.

“Hear me when I say the light of America’s promise will always burn bright as long as we never give up and as long as we keep fighting,” Harris said, which was the first time she spoke to her supporters since Republican candidate Donald Trump won the race.

Trump eventually took oath of office on January 20, 2025, returning to power as the 47th US president four years after refusing to accept defeat to President Joe Biden.
