Forget About 2023 Presidency, Group Tells Governor Kayode Fayemi

Forget About 2023 Presidency

OpenLife Nigeria reports that governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State has recently scaled up the ladder of 2023 presidential aspirants following the sequence of analyses on former President Ibrahim Babangida’s recommendation that Nigerians should consider age in their 2023 choice.
The former military leader, popularly known as IBB, spoke during an interview with Arise TV. Among other things, he identified bad leadership as the cause of the socio-economic challenges facing the country.
He went ahead to paint a picture of who should succeed President Muhammadu Buhari in office in 2023, stating that Nigeria’s next president should be in his 60s and one who should be able to talk to Nigerians.
His words: “If you get a good leadership that links with the people and tries to talk with the people; not talking on top of the people, then we would be okay.
“I have started visualising a good Nigerian leader. That is, a person who travels across the country and has a friend virtually everywhere he travels to, and he knows at least one person that he can communicate with,” he submitted.
However, ThisDay newspaper followed up with a long list of aspirants that are within IBB’s recommendations. Among them is the Ekiti governor.
Reacting, a group known as Fairness & Equity Forum, FEF, took exemption to Kayode Fayemi’s presidential aspiration.
In a statement signed by the Forum Secretary, Akintunde Dele and made available to OpenLife, the Forum noted that it is certainly unimaginable for any Yoruba man to be aspiring to be Nigeria’s President in 2023.
They emphasized, in that statement that though zoning has no constitutional backing, the Forum, in line with its operative ideology, advises the Yorubas to cede the position to either south-east or north-central.
They particularly punctured Fayemi’s aspiration claiming that it would translate to national insult if Kayode Fayemi makes further moves in the presidential contest.
They maintained that “If the age recommendation by IBB is what is giving governor Kayode Fayemi political organsm, he should go and think twice because he is a misfit for Presidency.
“He failed as Minister of Solid Minerals. He could not resuscitate that industry. He has been failing in Ekiti. There is nothing to show for his administration. He is fighting Tinubu and Senator Babafemi Ojodu and has not spared few moments for administration.
“You can hardly find him in Ekiti. He is always in Abuja pursuing his presidential aspiration and Governor’s Forum meetings,” the group lamented.
The Forum interrogated Fayemi’s economic knowledge when he led the Nigeria Governors’ Forum to agitate an increase in the price of Premium Motor Spirit, popularly called petrol, which
the Federal Government turned down.
“We do not want a president who would add to Nigerian’s hardship. Fayemi’s recommendation for an increase in pump price is an early indication that he thinks only of himself and is careless of others,” the group stated.
kayode Fayemi, born February 9 1965, has been Governor of Ekiti State office since 16 October 2018.
He previously served as the State governor between 2010 and 2014 before losing re-election to Ayodele Fayose..
He was among the first set of President Buhari’s cabinet ministers where he superintended over Solid Mineral Ministry.
