OpenLife Nigeria reports that Nigerian fashion designer Veekee James has set social media ablaze after revealing her public baby registry following the announcement of her first pregnancy.
On Tuesday, February 3rd, she shared a tender video cradling her baby bump alongside her husband, announcing the couple is expecting their first child.
But it didn’t stop there. Veekee James quickly opened her baby registry to the public, allowing fans and followers to send gifts ahead of the baby’s arrival.
While some celebrated the opportunity to participate in the designer’s milestone, others were quick to criticize her decision, calling it “tone-deaf” given her status as a successful entrepreneur surrounded by wealthy friends.
Some critics went further, branding her a “corporate beggar” for extending the registry to her fanbase.
The reactions on social media have been fiery and unfiltered:
One Ilu of Ekpoma wrote, “Packages beggars.”
One Service Culture Evangelist reacted with, “Audacity.”
Ebenezer commented, “She’s been doing this before now. I love the fact that she’s been dragged.”
Mary of ACL exclaimed, “This country can never get better because wtf is this?”
Rare Unfiltered Thoughts said, “Veekee James has turned her entire life into a sponsored ad.”
WorldM added, “Na mumu go send funds na.”
Meanwhile, defenders of the designer have spoken up:
Purple Ray wrote, “I don’t understand why people are mad about this cos she didn’t force anybody.”
Abbymilly Johnson added, “Even International celebs have a baby registry. Why are you guys always in her business? Lord, this is exhausting.”
The debate underscores a larger conversation around celebrity culture, social media boundaries, and how public figures navigate personal milestones online.
From admiration to criticism, Veekee James’ registry proves that in the age of social media, no personal milestone goes unnoticed.
