A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has sacked the Governor of Osun state, Gboyega Isiaka Oyetola.
He was sacked alongside his deputy, Benedict Alabi.
Justice Emeka Nwite who made the ruling on Friday said Oyetola and Alabi didn’t meet the requirements to be nominated as candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the previous Osun election.
He ruled that Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State who submitted Oyetola and Alabi names to INEC violated the provisions of Section 183 of the Nigerian Constitution, 1999 and Section 82(3) of the Electoral Act 2022.
Buni who is the chairman of the caretaker committee of the party, went against the provision of Section 183 of the constitution when he held double executive positions as the Governor of Yobe and the APC caretaker committee, the judge ruled.
The court also held that Governor Buni acted in contravention of the provision of Section 183 of the constitution when he held dual executive positions as the Governor of Yobe and the APC caretaker committee.
The suit challenging the nomination and sponsorship of Governor Oyetola and his deputy was filed by the opposition party, PDP on 7th April 2022, through its counsel, Kehinde Ogunwumiju.
