<p>&nbsp&semi;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p><em>Buba Marwa should resign immediately over reckless statement<&sol;em><br &sol;>&NewLine;<strong><a href&equals;"https&colon;&sol;&sol;openlife&period;ng&sol;">OpenLife Nigeria<&sol;a> <&sol;strong>reports that just barely three months after Brigadier General Mohammed Buba Marwa&comma; ret’d&comma; assumed office as Chairman&comma; National Drug Law Enforcement Agency&comma; NDLEA&comma; he has been called upon to resign honourably or be disgraced out of office&period;<br &sol;>&NewLine;The call for his resignation arose from a statement credited to him to the effect that &OpenCurlyDoubleQuote;one&comma; in every seven Nigerians&comma; is a drug addict&period;”<br &sol;>&NewLine;General Marwa was said to have made the statement when he paid Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State a courtesy visit at the Lagos House&comma; Marina&period;<br &sol;>&NewLine;Marwa&comma; a former military administrator of Lagos State&comma; said &OpenCurlyDoubleQuote;One&comma; in seven Nigerians&comma; takes drugs&period; We have found out that there is a nexus between drug use and crime&period;”<br &sol;>&NewLine;Reacting on Friday&comma; during a conversation with OpenLife&comma; Honourable Bassey Eko Ewa called on Marwa to tender his resignation letter immediately&period;<br &sol;>&NewLine;Honourable Ewa&comma; who was the Speaker&comma; Cross River State House of Assembly between 2003-2007&comma; before proceeding to House of Representatives in 2007&comma; lamented the poor judgment of Buba Marwa&period;<br &sol;>&NewLine;He took serious exemption to such a wholesale submission that &OpenCurlyQuote;one&comma; in seven Nigerians&comma; is a drug addict&period;’<br &sol;>&NewLine;&OpenCurlyDoubleQuote;Where did he get his statistics&quest; There is no justification to what Marwa has said&period; It is not true in my Yakurr constituency&period; It is not true in my Cross River Central Senatorial District&period; It is not true in my Cross River State&period; It is not true in Reps and other parts of Abuja where I stay&period;<br &sol;>&NewLine;&OpenCurlyDoubleQuote;I have interacted with many Nigerians both home and abroad including the rich&comma; middle class and the lower class&period; Nigerians are decent people&period; We are not a drug country&period;<br &sol;>&NewLine;&OpenCurlyDoubleQuote;Buba Marwa must resign&period; If his mission is to come to office and malign Nigerians by calling them drug addicts&comma; the honourable thing for him to do is to resign immediately&period;<br &sol;>&NewLine;&OpenCurlyDoubleQuote;It is this kind of statement from the likes of Marwa that scares investors away&period; These are the kind of statements that create negative impressions about<a href&equals;"https&colon;&sol;&sol;www&period;wsj&period;com&sol;"> Nigeria<&sol;a> and Nigerians home and abroad&period;<br &sol;>&NewLine;&OpenCurlyDoubleQuote;Even if there are drug addicts&comma; it does not translate to one out of seven Nigerians&period; Marwa has indicted whole lots of innocent Nigerians&period; He generalized without statistics&period; I call on the National Assembly to do the needful&period; He must resign immediately&comma;” Honourable Ewa demanded&period;<br &sol;>&NewLine;Born on September 9&comma; 1953 in Kaduna State&comma; Marwa who hail from Michika Local Government Area of Adamawa State attended the Nigerian Military School&comma; Zaria and the Nigerian Defence Academy&comma; Kaduna&period;<br &sol;>&NewLine;He Later served as Governor of Borno State during the administration of General Ibrahim Babangida and Governor of Lagos State during the military administration of General Sani Abacha&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;
