BREAKING: ADC To Atiku — “You’re A National Embarrassment”
OpenLife News reports that the African Democratic Congress, ADC, led by the factional chairman Nafiu Bala Gombe has condemned Alhaji Atiku Abubakar over what it called “fraudulent use of the party’s identity and treasonous actions” that undermine Nigeria’s sovereignty, saying he is becoming a “national embarrassment.”
In an official statement signed by Nafiu Bala Gombe and issued on Munday, August 31, 2026 after an emergency joint session of the Board of Trustees and National Working Committee, the ADC ordered Atiku to stop parading himself as the party’s presidential candidate.
The ADC accused Atiku of unauthorized exploitation of its name, logo and symbols to project falsehoods and embarrass Nigeria internationally.
“The ADC unequivocally condemns and orders an immediate stop to the criminal impersonation, forgery, and unauthorized exploitation of the party’s name, logo, and symbols. The use of our identity to project falsehoods and to embarrass Nigeria before the international community will not be tolerated.”
The party said such actions are “deliberately designed to ridicule Nigeria, erode her standing among the committee of nations, and present our country as lawless.”
The party condemned Atiku’s reported move to institute legal proceedings against <strong>President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in a foreign jurisdiction.
“While we recognize every citizen’s right to legal recourse, the ADC insists that grievances against the democratically elected President must be ventilated within the ambit of Nigerian laws and institutions. Dragging the office of the President to foreign courts is an act of desperation, cowardice, and treachery.”
The BOT/NWC described the action as “unpatriotic, shameful, and a direct affront to Nigeria’s national security and interest. It is an attempt to internationalize local politics for selfish gain.”
The party also addressed pressure from the G100 Coalition and Atiku to force ADC into a merger or alliance ahead of 2027.
“Let it be placed on record: The African Democratic Congress is NOT, and will NOT be, in any alliance, merger, or coalition with any political party ahead of the 2027 elections. The ADC is an independent, principle-driven, and self-reliant political party.”
The ADC warned it “will not be a ladder for political anarchists” and will contest 2027 based on its ideology and structure.
The party served Atiku notice to “desist forthwith from parading himself as, or speaking for, the ADC presidential candidate.”
“Any further attempt to drag the party’s name into his personal political vendetta or into actions that bring Nigeria into international ridicule will be met with legal and political consequences.”
The ADC charged INEC, security agencies and the public to take note, saying it remains committed to providing “credible leadership for Nigeria in 2027.”
